#10. La Fortuna Waterfall
The waterfall of La Fortuna is a beautiful gift of nature waiting to be admired! The La Fortuna Waterfall is 70 meter / 230 foot glistening cascade of fresh water in a dense ecological reserve. The hike worth the view of Cerro Chato and a much deserved cool off in the various natural swimming holes nearby.

#6. Bird Watching
Costa Rica is has more species of birds than all of the U.S. and Canada combined! With fruit trees flourishing all year round, Costa Rica is the home of 894 species of birds. Of these, 600 of these being residents, the rest just dropping by to say hello. Seven of the native bird species are endemic, which means that they only exist in Costa Rica.
The Arenal is one of the best spots to enjoy birding. With near 400 reported species of birds, you only need to wake up early and the morning to enjoy their angelic choir. In Arenal, the wildlife is so abundant that you don’t even have to head for the zoo’s to see them! Other lovely critters that you will encounter range from butterflies, exotic frogs, iguanas to mammals like Flash: white faced monkey, mantled howler monkey, congo, armadillo, ocelot, jaguar and deer.
Be careful when you are driving up the mountain as you may have to stop to allow a group of adorable and friendly coati pass by. They appear out of nowhere when you least expect them but when you look for them, they are nowhere to be found. Go on an exploration nature hunt in our own back yard!
#4. Lake Arenal
Once upon a time there existed the small town of Arenal. Then on July 1968, the once sleeping titan, the Arenal Volcano awoke and erupted bringing a close to the small Costa Rican town. Today, the town sleeps beneath the extensive Arenal Lake only frequented by fish and divers. The largest lake in Costa Rica, this picturesque lake is the home of abundant flora and fauna, helps provide the country with electricity through it’s hydroelectric power plant and a gorgeous backdrop to the scenery.
