Costa Rica racks up international awards

Costa Rica, a veteran tourist destination that was put on the map by roaming surfers in the 1960s, is as popular as ever. Thanks to its sustainability initiatives and focus on quality service and tourism products, Costa Rica continues to top “Top Places to Visit” charts. To start of the year, the country has already received a lot of press.

Online travel magazine Travelzoo, with more than 24 million subscribers all over the world, categorized Costa Rica as one of five “Wow Deal Destinations for 2012”. They highlighted Costa Rica as a destination that offers a lot of value to tourists thanks to the quality, variety and accessibility to all of the country’s natural destinations.

The magazine Travel Weekly awarded Costa Rica the distinction of being the best destination in Central and South America in 2011 in their Readers Choice Awards.

Additionally, travel industry publications Agent @ Home, Vacation Agent and TravelPulse, recognized Costa Rica as the leading business travel destination of the year.

Individual properties also topped all of Trip Advisor’s Traveler’s Choice Awards categories in Central America. Florblanca Resort in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica was listed as the top luxury hotel in Central America. Rancho Pacifico in Cahuita was listed as the top spa/relaxation hotel. Casa MarBella in Santa Teresa was the top Bargain Hotel in the region, Casa Bella Rita was top B&B, while Le Cameleon in Puerto Viejo came in 2nd for trendiest hotel.
